ANMAC Skills Assessment (Nurses & Midwives)

The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) assesses nurses and midwives for skilled migration. Here's how the assessment types, registration, English and fees fit together.

Overview

What ANMAC assesses

ANMAC confirms that your nursing or midwifery qualifications and experience meet Australian standards for your nominated occupation. A positive outcome lets you claim your occupation for a points-tested visa such as the 189, 190 or 491.

Nursing migration has a second thread alongside the skills assessment: eligibility for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) through AHPRA, which includes meeting the NMBA's English language standard (commonly IELTS or OET). The two run in parallel, and we help you sequence them.

Official information: see ANMAC — skilled migrants and the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.

The general rules are above. These next calls decide your outcome — and they need your documents to answer. Guess wrong and it can cost months and fees:

  • Which ANMAC assessment type fits your registration history.
  • The order to run ANMAC, NMBA/AHPRA registration and English so nothing expires.
  • Whether your English result meets the current NMBA standard.
  • What evidence of recent practice (currency) you'll need.

Common scenario

English that expired mid-process

A nurse passed the skills assessment, but their English result lapsed before registration — stalling the visa. Mapping the sequence up front keeps every component valid at the right moment.
