Partner visa evidence: what you actually need

Partner visa applications live or die on evidence. We break down the four key aspects of a relationship you'll need to document.

The four pillars of relationship evidence

For partner visas, you generally need to demonstrate your relationship across four areas: financial aspects, the nature of your household, the social aspects of your relationship, and the nature of your commitment to each other. Strong applications provide consistent evidence across all four.

Financial aspects

Examples include joint bank accounts, shared bills and expenses, joint liabilities or assets, and evidence of pooling finances or supporting each other.

Household & social

Think shared lease or mortgage, mail at the same address, shared household responsibilities, joint travel, photos together over time, and statements from friends and family who can attest to your relationship.

Commitment

Evidence of your knowledge of each other's lives, communication when apart, and your plans for a shared future all help show a genuine, continuing relationship.

Quality and consistency matter more than volume. A well-organised, clearly indexed set of evidence is far more persuasive than a disorganised pile.
